Slowing Down

A have a week to hit the brakes and focus on things I need to do, like redesign my site for an upcoming conference.  I don’t know why I do this at the last minute. Did I really say I was slowing down? Oh, that means I’ll actually be staying at home more to finish personal projects. It means, I slowly start groveling through my piles and piles of old and newly purchased books, and making a conscious choice to read those that have “Web Analytics” and “Web Design” in their titles. How does one fit reading more than a thousand pages of geek text, redesign a site, create a friend’s business’s promotional graphics, get ready for a blogging conference in a week, interspersed with an iota of social life and running and yoga here and there.

I shouldn’t say, slowing down. Instead of going on the fast lane, I found myself on the autobahn.

Flow

If you welcome all kinds of experiences…truly, deeply from every facet of your being, life will unfold in amazing and unexpected ways. It’s not just about seeing through rose-colored lenses anymore. It’s living all corners of life in bursts of every imaginable color. And I have to ask why we sometimes choose to live monochromatically.

Life is like a diamond in the rough. It is precious and valuable, and given to us, the master cutters. As we grow older, expand our knowledge, develop our skills, and gain experience, we get better at our craft. We get better at life. The life experience is a continuous process of polishing and finding the best cut and angle as you go along, and the outcome shows the faceted gem that we’ve made out of it. Like diamonds, life is the hardest “thing” you will work at, but certainly rewarding on all levels.

The Days Are Short and The Nights Are Even Shorter

July is almost over and I’ve been zipping through it like it’s the autobahn. Work, running, Bikram classes, yoga classes, Pilates classes, client meetings, picnics, potlucks…

I must say that with the running thing going on, it’s not just running. I have to cross-train with low-impact activities so I don’t get injured. I have to get massages. Who the heck knew it would be such a  time-consuming sport? I have my first 5K race in less than 2 weeks, and initially the plan was to join a 10K race at the end of September. However, I’m re-thinking that. The deadline to sign up for that race is tomorrow. So, we’ll see. I want to keep running the whole summer, but not to train for something so soon after my 5K. I’d love to have some free time now. Amen.

In other news, I just jogged 2 miles without any walk breaks yesterday. Woohoo! Gosh, I really need to work on my speed. I’m slowwww.
