Back to Basics

Great food, roars of endless roars of laughter, singing, dancing…everyone enjoying themselves. Three decades ago, all I really cared about were the gifts. These days, I don’t care about them at all and don’t expect them, although I certainly appreciate them when given. When I tell you to show up with an empty stomach and a feverish appetite, and you do–then you’ve made me a happy celebrator. When you’re old enough to make money and buy whatever it is that you want (within reason of course), these materials things don’t count. You can get them whenever you want, but having a time when those you love come together under one roof to celebrate your special day–now that is priceless.
So yes, thirty one years later and I think I’m really beginning to get the hang of it…
Sounds like such a wonderful day :) Especially with all the good food you shared too.
I had my birthday whilst we were on the road, and my friend invited her friends around to help celebrate. I felt much appreciation of the present moment. As though wherever I am & whatever I’m doing I’m leading a good, whole life. It’s not dependent on getting things but on the life experiences we are enjoying.
